The Whitmer Symposium is an annual event held in Richmond, Missouri. Established in 2017, the event is co-sponsored by the Missouri Mormon Frontier Foundation, the Ray County Historical Society, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Whitmer (1805-1888) was a longtime resident of Richmond, Missouri, where he operated a successful livery stable and became a prominent and respected citizen. In 1867, he was elected to fill an unexpired term as mayor (1867–68). Well known as one of the Three Witnesses of The Book of Mormon, Whitmer was an active member of the in the Richmond community until his death in 1888.
